This Day In History

The Shuttle Explodes

I hope the link to this page works for you...Do you remember this day? I will never forget it. I was working in Reno at the time. I was sitting in the supt's office on the construction site for the new Sierra Pacific Power Co. office building. I had just stopped by to check some plans with the architect and the TV was on, so I sat down to watch the liftoff. What a terrible tragedy!

  1. I remember I was on my way back to pre-algebra from the rest room when I saw a teacher running down the halls of Brunswick Jr. High school crying. When I returned to my classroom an annoucement sounded over the PA. We were all shocked, some of the kids cried, others made uncomfortable jokes. My teacher was bawling, he had applied for the position of first teacher in space. We were asked for for a moment of silent meditation and most of us prayed. It hit close to home with Christa McAuliffe being a fellow Yankee. I will never get over it. The words "Throttle up" will forever be ingrained in my mind. Lord have mercy
