A Mother's Story

The Amazing Hypocrites by Cindy Sheehan

Cindy lost her son just about one year ago...and she has some valid points to make. You may not agree, but since her loss is so great, you should listen.

  1. It is sad to read the words of a grieving mother and my heart goes out to her. However she is acting on her emotions. This one statement right here say's it all

"Casey was misused and abused by his Commander-in-Chief and executive branch that boldly lied to the American public and the less gullible citizens of other countries about the reasons for the invasion of Iraq"

One we don't know that Bush lied, I think he just got poor intellegence, as did Clinton and the other nations that did in fact believe Saddam had WMD though still opposed the war. When I read the signs of the protestors as they march it is a bit about war and a whole lot about some other socialist or communist cause. I saw a darn sign that was anti war but much more largely it had a message for ferret legalization (an issue near and dear to my heart). These "less gullible" citizens of other nations aren't less gullible, they hate the US. We are the New York Yankee's to them, we just keep winning and winning.

  2. I wanted to add that President Bush didn't deserve a second term. In the Navy the Captain goes down with the ship. Bush should never have sought another term and the GOP should never have nominated him. If Lieberman had been the Dems pick I would have campaigned for him.

  3. Perhaps she mispoke when she said Bush lied...I know I have been guilty of that myself. What she could have said was "Bush didn't tell the truth"...a kinder and gentler way of saying it. So I resolve to not call him a liar anymore. (Unless I catch him at it!)

Ms. Schiavo will die from starvation, a sign of neglect. A soldier in Iraq died in the line of duty, though his family may not agree. The two stories have almost nothing in common. By neglecting to feed Mr. Schiavo, who at this point has the mind of a child, we are abusing her. And for what? So that her husband can get back to his mistress and the two children he has had with her in the past 13 years? The soldier knew what his job would bring when he enlisted. Terry Schiavo has never made a clear decision that she wants to die, and her body refuses to also. That should tell people something. As for the soldier, he did not die in vain. Women (as a group) who were once being beheaded by Saddams's regime for being too beautiful to Saddam's sons are now running for a position in the new national assembly. We went the long way to get there, but then we always do, don't we?

  5. Dear Anonymous: You knew that I would have to respond...so here goes- I really don't want to comment on the tragedy of the Schiavo case, except to say that more attention should be paid to what the doctors are saying and not to every word that her parents are saying. Don't discount her parents; just add in the facts that others may present. And I would add that unless we know for a fact that Mr Schiavo is liar, we should not discount his version of the "facts".

And you said, "The soldier knew what his job would bring when he enlisted." Believe it or not, most soldiers do not enlist for patriotic reasons and when they sign on the dotted line, they may have read the contract but they rarely know what it really means. Do recruiters ever use the words "war" and "death' in their pitch? And onto another angle...why do we only recruit young people? Wouldn't it make sense to recruit wiser and older citizens? I bet there's a good reason!

And finally...the two stories are really about lies and the abuses of power and yes, they are related.
