Party Time!

Odd…during the course of last Saturday evening’s festivities, I was asked by my son-in laws if I would be attending the local Democratic Party Dinner? There was a sign posted in Hamilton City that advertised the coming event and it was apparent that they thought I would be going. Since I don’t belong to a party of any kind, I have to wonder why they thought I would be attending? In truth, I have a problem understanding why anyone would belong to a political party…Have we lost the ability to think for ourselves and so we need a “Party” to do our thinking for us? If you support the Democratic or Republican Parties by joining them, then you are in effect telling the world that you stand behind every single thing that those parties espouse. Why would you want to do that? You can do a lot more for the political process by remaining neutral and not committed…this forces the political parties to come to you and explain themselves if they want your support. Luckily, there are a growing number of voters who have recognized this potential power and the two parties are starting to take notice of them.

I wasn’t planning on going to the dinner…but maybe, if the Democrats paid for it…?

  2. I don't agree that one has to believe in every aspect of the party platform if they belong to a party. You seem to have left out how these parties come to the platforms they claim. You have alot of grass roots workings behind the scenes. I think we need more parties.

Steve you are left of center, that is why people think you'd be part of a left of center organization. As much as I like some of the social programs the dems propose, they largely are okay with the murder of babies. Howard Dean is a doctor of death. No Christian can be pro-choice.

And I did leave it out...let me correct that. The platforms are created by those who pay for platforms. Grass Roots are a fable...

And as long as we're declaring "Ultimate Truths", here's one...no Christian can be pro-war.

  4. No Christian can be pro-war? Steve you need to start reading books other than Job. What did God command His people to do to their enemies. Two thousand years of the New Testament church has always believed that fighting evil is sometimes neccesary.
I think it would be better stated that no true Christian is pro-murder. Some wars are murder, some are not.

Hmmmm, so corporations have set the pro-life platform in the Republican party? Perhaps you are stating a partial truth but not the complete truth. You also seem to dismiss that grass roots conservatives and liberals don't have sincere beliefs that mirror the present platforms.

  5. I will say it again. Christ did not sanction war. There were no Christians in the Old Testament and Christ represents our new covenant with God.

There are a lot more planks on a platform than pro-life. Platforms are what is fed to the electorate. Corporations pay for the "real deal". Can you tell me how many planks in the platform are ever instituted into the law of the land? And...which came first, the platform or the grass roots support? (Chicken or the egg?)

  6. Christ in not a created being, the Logos was with God and the logos was God. God uses even war for a good purpose. Read the Old Testament, read what God commanded his chosen people to do their enemies. There was a purpose.

  7. Let's see...if we change just a few words, it sounds very much like an Islamic proposal.

Didn't say that Christ was created...did say that Christ brought us the new covenant and it doesn't include war. Does God need defending?

  8. You should read the Book of Nahum. God hasn't changed we just want to make od fit our little ideas of what He should be. God does as He wills and I'm okay with it. War is a failure of humanity, giving ones life for another however is just what God expects. War isn't The answer, however it sometimes is an answer.

  9. Nahum speaks of the city of Nineveh and its destruction...and then speaks of the Messiah
"Behold upon the mountains the feet of him that bringeth good tidings, that publisheth peace!"
Nahum does not advocate war. War is what men do, not God.
