The Writer's Almanac

with Garrison Keillor

Scroll down to this portion...

"It's the birthday of Syrian poet Nizar Qabbani,

A sad story, but wonderful poetry.

  1. Thanks for the link to The Writer's Almanac, I always enjoy Keillor's take on things. Of course, by the time I actually followed that link, there was a new page, with a poem by Billy Collins, also good. That poem, Introduction to Poetry, ought to be required reading for all teachers of high school (and maybe university?) literature!

  2. Yes, that's a problem with the Writer's Almanac site. I've never been able to link to a specific page and if you read my post a few days later, you can be baffled.

  3. Just read the Collins piece...

"...But all they want to do
is tie the poem to a chair with rope
and torture a confession out of it.

They begin beating it with a hose to find out what it really means."

    That's good!
