Now what?

I had a bad computer experience yesterday morning. I had some back pain early on, so I decided that I was going to use the laptop and sit in my comfortable chair and play a game of Scrabble. It never happened. I was sitting there, with the computer on my lap, ready to click on the Scrabble icon, when it suddenly displayed the 'Blue Screen of Death'. Click. Click. Click. The drive was toast. Darn it! I had plans for that computer! That was going to be my communication and entertainment tool during my post surgery period when it would be difficult to get to my usual computer at the other end of the house. I had already checked out the networking capabilities and the laptop connected just fine from the family room. Ah, technology!

What will it cost to repair it? A new hard drive would be just under a $100 if I install it myself. And then I would have to reinstall the operating system and all of the programs. Or, should I just use the 'stimulus' money and buy a netbook, which would be lighter and easier to hold after my surgery. That old laptop is definitely not a lightweight. And I believe that one of the cooling fans is non-operational as well. Which might have contributed to the HD failure. If so, that would have to be repaired as well. Ah, technology! It always comes with a price tag…

  1. My laptop is old and probably about to follow the path of yours, no doubt at the most inconvenient moment. I've been debating the same question as you, laptop/netbook, and I am probably going to go with the netbook. I'll be interested to hear what you decide.

  2. I will certainly share my experience...I've already begun to compare prices and now I'm thinking netbook now and fix laptop at my leisure.

  4. Don't buy anything electrical until Mercury goes direct (Mercury the communications planet) and that will be June 1. Seriously. Expect delays, communication problems, technical problems until then (this happens three times a year). Don't start anything new, don't sign any contracts. Time to clean up loose ends.

(speaking of, I am NONE and it's a goof up that sometimes happens because of my email mix-up address)....dang, it's too hard to explain but there ya have it...am now back to Ima and posting.

  5. Ima,

No problem...it will take me until June to figure out what I really want to do!
