From Time Goes By

Nursing Homes and Drugs

It's been one of those mornings. It started with a great article about antidepressants from Mature Landscaping and then this one from Saul Friedman. After reading them, I have to wonder why anyone would go out of their way to support the pharmaceutical industry...but our legislators do. And so do an amazing number of our fellow citizens; those that fought long and hard against any health care legislation. What were they thinking? This is an industry that is crying out for more regulation, not less! It's too bad we had to buy a automobile manufacturer, GM. We would be better off nationalizing a pharmaceutical company...

  1. Thanks for the shout-out and I think you're on to something with your idea about regulating the pharmaceutical companies. They spend tons of money hiring hot-looking young adults to haunt the halls of doctors' offices, shower the docs and office staff with food and flirtation, and maybe spend five minutes getting feedback or giving information about their products. The drugs themselves are sometimes miraculous, but the process of R&D, federal approval, marketing, and lobbying is a cesspool of waste and sketchy propriety. The costs...well, I feel sick just thinking about that! Thank you so much for commenting on that post! I left an answering comment there.
