Boring

What’s in the news? All of the usual stuff and most of it’s boring this morning. Technology is the only place to get the good news, the exciting news! What would I do without it?

The news that caught my attention was the fact that Intel is investing $1.5 billion in retooling Fab 11X in Rio Rancho, New Mexico to produce 45 nanometer chips. That’s really small. (The chip itself isn’t that small, but the structures inside of it are. A nanometer is a unit of spatial measurement that is 10^-9 meter, or one billionth of a meter. It is commonly used in nanotechnology, the building of extremely small machines.) And they are doing the same thing in Chandler, AZ. That’s a $3 billion investment.

I did get a small laugh from the more conventional news, “Uruguay economy wins praise from Bush”

“President Bush, seeking firmer allies in Latin America, paid a visit Saturday to the smallest country in South America, praising Uruguay for its robust economy and democratic traditions.”

I wonder how he justified all of that praise for the former Tupamaros he was having dinner with? I guess when you’re desperate for a friend, even a former “terrorist” will do.

Hmm? Come to think of it, even George Washington was a former "terrorist'. It's all in the perspective...
