What’s On?

Here's what I'm thinking… since the satellite and cable providers refuse to do ala carte television; I can get almost the same thing for just $5 a month. Netflix gives you most of the popular television shows you might want via your internet connection. As many as you want and some are even 'same day'. And if you don't want to watch them on your computer monitor screen, you can do a little bit of cabling or even a wireless connection and have it shown on your big screen TV. Sure beats $50 a month!

We are watching Whale Wars on Animal Planet. And it is true, you can get the DVD on their site. I think the reason I like the series so much is it really makes you think about all sides of the Save the Whale movement. The leader of the Sea Shepherds was co founder of Greenpeace but got kicked out. He and his followers are called "eco-terrorists" because they do not protest the illegal killing of whales, but enforce the laws (as they see them)by confrontation with the Japanese Whaling fleets that kill whales in a sanctuary. That is the kicker, "how they interpret" the law.
Read about it here: http://www.seashepherd.org/ but also read this: http://www.highnorth.no/library/movements/Sea_Shepherd/se-sh-re.htm from the International Whaling Commission's side.
I want to side with the Sea Shepherds, but their tactics kind of remind me of the anti-abortion terrorists that bomb and kill people at abortion clinics because of their passionate beliefs. The Sea Shepherds do not kill, but the captain will definitely do anything up to that point to rescue whales. Very riveting TV. And DVD available to those with no TV

  2. I know what you mean. I applaud the Sea Shepherds yet wish there was another way. It's all about power for those countries that continue to hunt whales; a animal that has no true marketable value.
