Eminently Qualified?

I won't even mention the lies...

"Republicans defended Ms. Rice as eminently qualified to be the public face of American diplomacy. "She's knowledgeable, she's smart, she's honorable," said Senator Richard G. Lugar, the Indiana Republican who is the chairman of the Foreign Relations Committee."

During the Reagan years, Ms. Rice was the Administrations leading Soviet expert...the same expert that was so surprised by the implosion of the Soviet Union...she never saw it coming.

Ever since that event, I have always had this thought in the back of my mind...We couldn't have been that dumb as to not see that the Soviets were in trouble. Perhaps the Pentagon was withholding the information on purpose? So that they could continue to spend and spend some more? But that sounds like a conspiracy and we know that's illegal.

  1. I used to get copies of declassified Pentagon publications meant for congress. It was apparent by reading publication like "USSR, Prospects for Change" that the Military saw the very real chance of a collapse, however even with such a collapse there was no guarantee of who or what would take power. No matter who was in charge they would have an impressive amount of military hardware at their disposal. That is what worried the Pentagon. It was a miracle that events happened the way they did. God's hand was in it. Here are a couple sites of note.

Twenty years ago these soldiers would have been poised to kill each other, now they worship together.

I think Dr. Rice is as good as any other person would have been. She is really the right person for another time. I liked Powell, less of a lap dog, a soldiers, soldier.
