Perceptions

Saturday was a good day for us, bright and sunny. And we certainly enjoyed ourselves with a visit to the Chico Farmer’s Market. We have been going to the Market once or twice a month; all through the winter months and so this bright spring-like day was a welcome change from the chill of winter. We picked up some snap peas and young beets. Plus some fresh broccoli and great looking onions! Along with the change in the weather, there was definitely a change in the size of the crowd and the variety of goods for sale.

Chico has two (2) Farmer’s Market days and they are as different as night and day. The Thursday night market takes place downtown and some of the streets are barricaded to give room to the merchants and the crowds. And the crowd is mostly young and painfully hip.

The Saturday market takes place downtown as well, but in a large parking lot a few blocks from the center of town and no streets are shut down. The crowd in attendance could also be called hip, but in a gentler, less strident manner. Yes, they are older…and I’m guilty of Age-ism, once again.
