The Zadie Smith page

Who?
I must admit that I hadn't heard of Zadie Smith before I heard her being intervierwed on NPR this morning. As it turned out, I wish the interview had gone on and on and on...but it ended before the interviewer asked any of the questions that I would have asked of her.

One of the comments she made was about "semi-colons" and how she likes to put them here and there in her work. She likes the fact that there aren't any hard and fast rules about their use...and I can tell you that I began using semi-colons about a year ago and for the same reason? I just like them! Just as some enjoy "three dot" journalism, some of us are semi-colon junkies.

And her comments on becoming a writer were valuable, very valuable!

  2. Oh, yes...Herb Caen (SF Columnist) was the foremost advocate of the 3-dot school. And if you use MS Word you may notice that as soon as you type the third "Dot", the case changes to a smaller one, making very neat little dots for you.
