Sunday has arrived. And it’s quiet here at this early morning hour. A time that I enjoy. The house is full of family and that’s also very enjoyable. The parents of the twins have come to reclaim them and that means that Grandma and Grandpa will no longer be the villains, always saying “No!, Don’t do that…” It also means that we will no longer have to sneak a cookie for ourselves to enjoy. “Grandpa…what you have in your hand?”
What’s in the news? Surprising, but it seems to be a quiet news day so far. Just the usual disasters, war, pestilence and famine. And locally, all is quiet. The weather is cooperating and so we will have a boring mid winter day with an occasional cloud in the sky. No rains are forecast this week, just a slight chance of showers later in the week.
The most excitement during the past week has come from Las Vegas and reports from the annual Consumer Electronics Show. Today is the last day of the show and I can only imagine what the airport looks like this morning as convention goers head home. I just read that McCarran International Airport had over 40 million passengers last year! That’s in an airport built to handle about half that number.
The geek blogs have been busy all week, displaying and commenting on all of the weird and wonderful electronics that were on display at the show. I wonder what the success rate is for most of that stuff? I do know that they spend an awful lot of money trying to come up with that one item that the public just can’t live without. The last couple of years it has been the iPod and Apple is a wealthy company once again because of it. I just saw (and touched) my first iPod the other day and I have to admit that it’s pretty classy. I even tried to justify buying one…without success. But what I would really like to see at the CES show would be a cell phone that works as well as its advertised to work. That’s all I want. Is that too much to ask?
