True to Type

How odd…but I’m sure it’s nothing new. Since we are babysitting this week, we have seen a lot more cartoons from the Disney people and PBS than we normally see. And I hadn’t realized how much stereotyping goes on in the stories and the images. The snooty little cartoon girl wears her sweater on her shoulders with the arms tied neatly across her chest. The nerdy little boy wears glasses. These are stereotypes from 50 years ago! And they still exist today. Try watching a cartoon or two for yourself and see if you don’t see the same kind of things.
