A Different War

Last night, I watched the Frontline report on the meth epidemic once again. And this morning I read this…

“U.S. demand for illegal narcotics feeds Mexican corruption. Narcotics trafficking negatively affects political and economic conditions in Mexico (and thus has an impact on immigration). Getting real control of the borders means curbing America's appetite for illegal drugs. Or just legalizing them, putting the narcotics lords out of business.”

Does anyone really think we will win the War on Drugs? How long has it been going on and how close to victory are we? Or have we simply forgotten it and it has become “background noise”? The money just disappears and since we never saw the money to begin with, it doesn’t seem to matter. But what if we were given a bill for that war? Once a month?
