Words

There has been a lot of interest in the news concerning Hewlett Packard and the sneaky investigations by board members as they searched for someone that was leaking stories to the press. What I find odd about all of this is the birth of a new buzzword; “pretexting”. It seems to me that “lying” would be the proper word to use. And I really can’t get excited about the fact that private investigators lied to obtain information. I’m more upset about the fact that the lies were so quickly believed by those whose job it is, is to maintain security of data. Why aren’t those people in trouble? Lying itself is something that most politicians do on a regular basis, in fact, some consider it patriotic to lie. And pretending to be someone other than yourself (pretexting) is something most congressmen can do with ease. This case sounds like a media opportunity for the Attorney General of California…and he’s a politician through and through!
