- Conflict in Iraq -
Of course the morning news is filled with stories of war. And I think we have become immune to these stories over the years. Since we are not being asked, as a nation, to sacrifice anything for the war, we can’t help but see it as irrelevant to our "real" lives. It doesn’t affect our jobs or our family life. The weather is more threatening. We can hit the channel changer if the war news disturbs us at all. Remember the book, 1984? In that book, the nation (Oceania) was always at war and the name of enemy would change every once in awhile, but without comment. Allies became the enemy and vice versa. And after awhile it simply became background noise. Today, whenever we do feel some sort of emotion about this war, we can always drive over to Wal-Mart and buy a magnetic Support Our Troops sticker for the car. Our sacrifice? $2.99 plus tax. We've done our part.
