Thermohaline what?

Why does it take so long to get smart? I was just reading about Thermohaline Circulation and came across this simple explanation of why you float better in salt water than in fresh. “Saltier water is denser than fresher water because the dissolved salts fill interstices between water molecules, resulting in more mass per unit volume.” Duh! There’s simply not enough room for you in salt water. I guess I had never thought about it that way before…and now I know.
