A little information about the photo of the mountain that you see at the top of the page. That's Thompson Peak right above the words, "Projections" and it looms over Janesville. At the top and almost in the middle of the picture is a small dark object. That's the old Forest Service Lookout station. From our house, at the bottom of the mountain, you could usually spot the sun glinting off of the windows in the tower.
This picture was taken in the winter, when Thompson Peak presents a more dramatic face to the passerby on US 395.
Today, if you were on top of that peak, you would be faced with a raging forest fire if you were looking south. North, and directly below you, would be the small community of Janesville.
