The morning arrives and I am ready for it; my second cup of coffee in hand while I browse the internet, looking for news.
Barry Bonds home run record? That’s a non-event. Is there something else in the news?
How about this quote… "It was relatively easy for me to read the sitting president’s body language after he had talked to his mother or father. Sometimes he’d ask me a probing question. And I’d think, Hmm, I don’t think that question came from him." ANDREW H. CARD JR., former White House chief of staff.
Of course it didn’t. Oh,
Third cup of coffee; and while I’m pouring it I can smell the peaches. 48 ripe peaches on the kitchen counter. These are
Bond's homerun a "non-event"?!? More like history in the making!!! I have tickets for the game on Saturday - too bad he couldn't have waited a few days! We have tickets right behind the dugout. Okay, it may not be political (like Secretary Bowen's idiotic top-to-bottom review that is ripping democracy from the fingertips of Californians), but I'd have to say (call me simple) I still think baseball and apple pie is what it is all about. Do I need to bake you an apple pie? :)
ReplyDeleteDear granddaughter...surely you know me better than that. When it comes to sports, if it's professional (corporate) I'm agin it!
ReplyDeleteLet's see now...my 'democracy'is doing just fine. As a long time absentee voter (permanently now) I wouldn't want to touch a touch screen for any reason. In Oregon, voting any other way is the exception. The way it should be.
Can the electonic voting system security be breached? You bet! Has it? Don't know. Crackers don't always leave fingerprints.
Better to be safe, (and wiser) vote by absentee ballot!
All absentee voting would be a dream come true! For special interest groups, county election officials and voters, I can imagine. BUT - the idea was to accomodate those who are unable to walk into a polling place and vote like an average citizen - this is why the federal government approved these and spent billions to implement this systems (just in the past few years). California has had more restrictions than anywhere else in the nation since the implementation (including printers, which is being debated in Congress right now). Seems like someone should have brought up all mail ballots some time ago. All that the SOS has decided on is to exercise her boss-y muscles. She will put many counties in major debt (cost to taxpayers themselves), not to mention the touch-screen systems will still be in use. The "new requirements" that she spent $8.9 million on research to come up with, were already being used by county officials. Oh, and the money for the rushed research? It came from the touch-screen vendors. Now we will be ordering more of the scanners from the vendors to make up for the added restrictions. Hmmm... makes me think someone has alterior motives somewhere, but I truly can't quite figure it out. Any ideas? I'd love your opinion.
