A Gamble

Last week’s Economist had a couple of good articles and one was all about the world’s largest casino; opened on August 28th. Some statistics; it took a workforce of 20,000 construction workers to build it. They used up $2.4 billion dollars in construction costs. 3 million sheets of gold leaf were used. Diana Ross appeared for the opening ceremony and sang ‘Ain’t No Mountain High Enough’ in the 15,000 seat entertainment arena. There are 870 gaming tables and 3,400 slot machines. Plus, 350 shops around the perimeter of the casino itself. And now that it is open, it takes a workforce of 16,000 people to keep it running. It appears that China is doing quite well for itself.
