It was at least 25 years ago when we first saw Orland. Our 4-H sheep leader had suggested that we make a field trip to the big Orland sheep festival in the spring. I don't remember the actual name for the event, but in the world of sheep...it was big! There were hundreds of sheep being exhibited, an auction, shearing exhibits, wool spinning and barbecued lamb to eat.
So down the canyon (Deer Creek- Hwy 32) we came, leaving the crusty old snow and foggy days behind. There were Dogwoods flowering in the canyon and the sun was shining. That was my first impression of the planet Orland; the sun shone!
What ever happened to that big sheep fest? You have to look far and wide to spot a lamb anymore. I saw some around Corning last year.
