Now there’s too much news! I was hoping to find a somewhat quiet and peaceful internet to wander around in this morning, but no; the big news is the awarding of the Nobel Peace Prize to Al Gore. And this is already generating ‘swift boat’ attacks on Mr. Gore and the whole subject of global warming. Intelligent discourse has fled the scene…
The other big story is the recalling of the Turkish ambassador to the US because of the House vote on the issue of Armenian genocide. (1915) It’s all about the power of words. If we simply call the killing of thousands upon thousands of Armenians; murder, then all is well. But call it genocide and we have a diplomatic and military crisis. So what constitutes genocide? For me it’s not the numbers but the intent. If you kill one Armenian simply because he is an Armenian, that would be genocide. Genocide occurs every day in every part of the world; including the US of A.
Turks are (by law) a very proud people. Turks can go to jail if they say or write something that could be judged insulting to their sense of ‘Turkishness’. Whatever that is. And now we have the US of A, also a ‘proud’ nation, on a collision course with the Turks. Turkey has been waiting for an excuse to invade Iraq and this may be just what they need. Dare we say it? ‘Pride goeth before a fall.’
I was surprised about the NPP to Gore. Well, not really... Apparently he beat out a 97-year-old woman who rescued people from the Holocaust. And just a week after he filed nomination papers for the Feb. Presidential Primary... weird...
ReplyDeleteFrom what I've found...Mr. Gore hasn't filed any papers at all. Those who wish to draft him may have done so. Gotta link?
ReplyDeleteI have a hard time with Mr. Gore. He's obviously quite intelligent, but he's a politician and the son of a politician. That's his world. I would love to have a one on one conversation with him, but I'm not sure I would like to go fishing with him. Get what I mean?
I'm still favoring Bill Richardson, since Dennis K won't make the cut. But...if Gore was somehow convinced to run and he won; wouldn't it be great to have someone intellectually qualified to hold the office? After all, it's been a long seven years with a president who has been 'left behind'.
Absolutely! Someone intellectually qualified is important to me. A rational, intellectually qualified, morally responsible individual is one I will vote for... Guess I won't be voting! Haha, just kidding... I don't find Gore to be rational, which is the problem I find with him. He seems like he is on the brink of that over-intelligent schizophrenia, but that is just my opinion. And yes, our office was notified that Albert Gore Jr was to be submitting declaration's of candidacy to be on the February ballot. And, correct me if I am wrong, but I'm pretty sure there was just a report (in the past few days) released about him already doing the same in Ohio. If it wasn't an international organization, I might lose all faith in the awards...
ReplyDeleteWell, I googled the heck out of it and couldn't find any news...other than the fact that groups were taking his name placing it in contention. Drafting.
ReplyDeleteLet me know if you find a link...
