Stability at Any Cost?

I’ve begun this entry half a dozen times in the last hour. Putting the cat in the adjoining chair so that I can type. And each time, Boo jumps back in my lap, demanding my attention. OK. I give. I will manage somehow.

From the news… “U.S. Is Likely to Continue Aid to Pakistan

By DAVID E. SANGER and DAVID ROHDE

The Bush administration signaled that it would likely continue aid to Pakistan’s military, despite the detention of rights activists and government opponents.”

"They would rather have a stable Pakistan — albeit with some restrictive norms — than have more democracy prone to fall in the hands of extremists."
TARIQ AZIM KHAN, Pakistan’s minister of state for information, describing American officials’ reaction to Gen. Pervez Musharraf’s suspending of the Constitution.

Duh! I believe that’s exactly what I said would happen, yesterday. And ‘restrictive norms’ are words that dictator’s use to describe the taking of liberty. Beware of restrictions!
