Maddening!

Super Tuesday is upon us. Is there any state that won’t be involved? Why? For if it doesn’t happen today for the candidate of your choice, it won’t happen at all. Just an opinion of course. And an idle thought; Vice President Hubert Humphrey, the Dem’s candidate for president, running against Nixon, didn’t participate in the primaries the year (1968) that he was the final candidate. Didn’t see a need for it and he was right. And it didn’t really hurt him in that election against Nixon. America was in a self-destructive mood anyway and Nixon was destined to be the president.

I’m almost through with David Halberstam’s book, the Coldest Winter. It has been a great book; one that has held my attention throughout. Yes, it’s a war story, a true one, but it’s also written to reveal the truth about the players in that sad drama. And as you read it, you can see why, 50 years later, that it is truly the ‘forgotten war’. No one wants to remember the criminals or the crimes that killed so many of our soldiers. It’s one thing to die in the defense of your country, but to die for the vanity of generals? I’m afraid I can’t remain objective as I read the book; after an hour or so, I’m simply mad and must put it down.
