And I did find a photo of the La Mar...with two movies of the early 40's shown on the marquee.
Just to the right of the theatre was Joe's Candy Cottage (Spelling? Was it Jo or Joe?)And I found this photo on the Denver Public Library site...
I remember eating at the Manhattan Patio with Dot after a show one night. Had Onion soup for the first time. Where was that memory hiding? Wow. I think Joes Candy Cottage was across the street from the La Mar. I used to get rock candy there and honeycomb too.
ReplyDeleteOK, now I remember. The Candy Cottage was next to the jewelry store where I bought our wedding rings. But there was a 'sweet shop' of some kind right next to the La Mar. It was owned by Judy Dunlap's parents and Judy worked there sometimes. The shop was very narrow and the Dunlap's were quite wide...or that's how I remember it.
ReplyDeleteWe were both remarking this morning that we had never eaten at the Patio...Obviously Dot liked you better!
And I think it's Tilden's Sporting Goods next to the sweet shop
ReplyDeleteTilden's...yes I remember that name. I could not make it out on the photo. Dot only took me because you and Julie hid or something so you would not have to go. I think that was my birthday present so I could not refuse. No one else would go with her.
