We received our new Magellan Maestro 4040 GPS unit yesterday and charged the battery to prepare it for service. Then I turned it on last night. Whoa! Within a few seconds, it knew where it was located and named the road we live on. I know…it was all quite simple and I should have known it going to do that. In fact, I did. But I’m still fascinated by any new technology. Although it was part of my job*, for about 8 years before I retired, to seek out and test the latest in electronics, I never tired of that chore. I loved it! Still do. Now we need to go on a road trip to make sure it works for us.
* I worked in the Strategic Development Department. (Loved that name!) and whenever we had departmental meeting, we would sit around the conference table, all 8 of us, with laptops open and turned on. It was my job to bring a hub to the meeting so that we could all be connected. Most of the meeting (about 7 hours) was spent with all of us eyeballing our screens while listening to reports. Email and jokes would be sent to all attendees...except for the one who was speaking at the time.
