Get Out The Vote

It’s the wind again. An ill wind. Blowing at about 18 mph and gusting to 30. And getting warmer; we’ll see 101° by the end of the week. That’s about the same time that the winds are forecast to stop.

We received our ballots in the mail for the June primary. Pretty boring stuff after the heady days when major candidates prowled the state looking for voters. Let’s see; one judge and a County Supervisor plus the two Eminent Domain initiatives. But we’ll persevere and vote. My own forecast is that less than 35 percent of the voters will cast a ballot this time. Maybe 24 percent? This is a time when we could use the Oregon model for voting. All votes would be by mail and we could see 80 – 90 percent participation. But only if…and it’s a big if; the counties paid the return postage. Most voters, besides being lazy, are cheap.
