Feeling Good!

Good news. There always has to be some good news. And last night I received some. I’m certainly not as fit as I once was but according to WiiFit, I have a WiiFit age of 52! Sure, go ahead and laugh. But since I’m within weeks of being 68, any little help is appreciated.

As best I can tell, Nintendo/Wii takes in your weight/age/BMI; mixes it with a good portion of Core Strength testing and then comes up with an overall number to use as your WiiFit age. The secret is in the core strength. I have all sorts of hip/spine problems right now and I’m overweight because I can’t get out and get in some training. Of course my diet has something to do with that as well. Mea Culpa. But I have retained a lot of my core strength developed by race walking.

Ask any fitness expert and they will tell you that ‘core strength’ is vital. You can be a power lifter and have a magnificently toned body, but without core strength, you’re just so much useless mass. And usually top heavy mass. You’re liable to fall over a lot. Clumsy. It’s core strength that keeps us upright. And if you’re an elder, that’s very important. Remember that commercial, ‘Help! I’ve fallen and I can’t get up…”? You don’t want to be that person and that’s where core strength comes in very handy.

Of course there are all kinds of core strength exercise equipment and routines available now that it is a buzz word and has some popularity. But the fact is, over time, walking is just as good as any expensive fitness gimmick. Walking! Nothing better.

And since my WiiFit age was so good, I decided to celebrate with a little bit of Wii Ski Jumping. Now, I don’t do downhill skiing and my cross-country ski’s are up in the rafters and have been there for quite awhile, but I was able to score a 92 meter jump in my first ever attempt at ski jumping! With an outside temperature of 108°.
