Heartless?

High Crimes is the book and Mount Everest is the focus of it. And the deaths. When you first read of the climbers that simply walk past the dead and the dying on the mountain, you are horrified. But as you read more, you can begin to see why. To stop and to help is to die; yourself. It takes a dozen men or more to get one injured climber down and out of the well named ‘Death Zone’. As a climber, you have to know that when you start this journey to the top of the world, you are going to be all alone. You may have paid for a Sherpa to guide and carry your gear, but he won’t carry you down the mountain if you get in trouble. He will walk off and tell others that you are up there…and dying.

Interesting; there are ropes in place on the mountain. Put there and replaced on an irregular basis by some of the bigger outfitters. It costs a lot of money to string rope all of the way to the top! And as you climb the mountain, you clip on to the rope. And when you find a body, you unclip, walk around the obstacle and then clip on again.
