The surgery went well. The surgical center was bright and clean and very modern. As it should be. Of course all of that has to be paid for and it’s insurance that does the paying. And their money comes from us. The relatively healthy customers. With just a little bit siphoned off for the stockholders of the insurance company. Just a little teeny tiny bit. But, what if we all had insurance? What if we all contributed something? Every citizen. Wouldn’t there be plenty of money to go around? Wouldn’t it become - affordable? After all, there are millions of Americans without insurance, not paying anything, all because they can‘t afford it. But, what am I thinking? That would be socialism. Bad.
I am so ungrateful! Here I am, complaining about the health care industry when we just had a very pleasant experience with it. But then again, we have insurance; Medicare and a supplemental policy. It’s not free. Nothing is. That’s why it would be better if we all contributed a little something for those who have nothing. (We pay for Medicare - and have done so for years. It's not an entitlement. Despite what the Republicans call it.)
I guess I’m just an old fashioned kind of guy. I just think that everyone deserves to be taken care of when they’re sick. Whether they can afford it or not. I actually thought that was what humans did for one another.
Sure, some will abuse the system. But that’s human nature. Just look at Congress and the Senate, yet we continue to support them; giving them a paycheck and free health care. So it’s obvious that we are a caring and forgiving people. So why can’t we forgive the poor for their crime of being poor? Hmm? I think
