Bright

I was reading a local blog the other day and the author was commenting on the fact that we need a president that stands far above us in intellect. She or he needs to be the most intelligent person we know of. We don’t need someone we’re comfortable with. As the author pointed out, we really need someone who would be uncomfortable at our backyard BBQ. We’re not electing the President of the local Chamber of Commerce; we’re electing the leader of the most powerful nation on earth. She or he needs to be brilliant, not our 'pal'...

  2. Intelligence is measured by an individuals comfort level at a BBQ? I'm terribly confused. If leaders are not accessible, when it comes to making decisions that affect all of us regular weekly BBQ-ers, how will they know what the right decision is? This nation is powerful because of those who partake in backyard BBQs, not because of those who are too snobby to let their hair down. I'm cancelling my BBQ for this weekend, I want to appear intelligent! :)

p.s. none of the candidates are intelligent - that why they are in politics, silly!

  5. A politician who is far above us in intellect would be a rare gem indeed. But, I would at least like to elect one that can find Afghanistan on a map. And, even more importantly, one that knows the difference between the Shia and Sunni factions of Islam. If the president insists on fighting a war over there, for God's sake learn something of the culture.

  6. Accessible leaders? Accessible to who? (Or is it whom?) We just suffered through 8 years of a BBQ mentality president. I want one who is the very best! So fine that, yes, they would be uncomfortable at my BBQ or yours.

And knowing the 'right decision' comes from brain power, not BBQ power.

And the blog that got me going on this was this one.

As you say, Wally... a rare gem, indeed!

And I know that I dream in vain.
