A calm and peaceful morning here. But I’m watching news of Ike and reading Tweets from the Texas coast. I don’t have the sound on, but I don’t need it; most of the video is self explanatory. There are charts and satellite images and Doppler views; all easy enough to understand. Plus some hardy TV weather types, all dressed up in yellow slickers and braving the elements to show the viewers some of the debris in the streets. I know that all of this coverage should make the hurricane experience more ‘real’ for us, but it seems more surreal. Or is it just me? Ike exists in a plastic box and behind a 42” screen. With surround sound. If you’re lucky.
