Economics?

As I usually do on most mornings, I was reading Time Goes By and there is plenty of food for thought there this morning. And although I had plenty of thoughts after reading it, this sticks with me… if we have an economy that depends on consumerism, which all seem to agree is the case, our economy can collapse when we lose our ability to ‘consume’. Not a pretty picture.

And here's what it looks like to my simple mind... You take my money and give it to A.I.G. instead of using it for Medicare for myself and my friends. Now I can't pay for groceries and the owner of the market has to lay-off John; who has worked there for twenty years. So John stops spending... and you can see where it goes from there.

But what about A.I.G.? Ah! They're doing fine, thanks to you and me. A bright spot amidst the gloom.
