Ah! The first cup tastes so good! The ritual has changed over the years. Dramatically. What I call ‘coffee’ now would have been sneered at in my youth. I take a medium small cup and pour a healthy dollop of hazelnut creamer (yes, soy) into it and then nuke it in the microwave for 33 seconds exactly. I use 33 because it’s easier to just push the 3 button twice than have to search for some other button. Then I fill the cup with coffee. It’s great!
When I first started drinking coffee, I emulated my parents and added cream and sugar. That was around the age of 16. By 17 I was a rebel and drank it black just to shock them. Right.
Even in the late 50’s and early 60’s, when coffee houses were all the rage for the wannabe ‘beats’ like myself, I ordered espresso when I listened to bad poetry. The Navy reinforced the black coffee mode and that’s where I stayed for years afterwards.
But when coffee houses reappeared in the late 90’s (when was that?) I started drinking latte’s or cappuccino’s. But the other day I ordered an Americano and I may make that my drink from now on. My 17 year old self would be so embarrassed!
Aren't Americano's a lot cheaper too?.....
