No Choices

I’ve taken the step and ordered the new computer. And I’ve done it before the old one has failed. So far, so good. And with any luck at all, I will be able to do all of the data transfers as well before the older machine even hiccups.

This has been a good computer. When I think of the problems I used to encounter almost daily back in the days when I was the company computer ‘geek’, an IT department of one; it’s almost unbelievable to think that I could go close to 5 years without a hint of a problem. But they do make them better. The good old days weren’t.

Trivia; my first computer had a 40 MB hard drive. This new one will have a 640 GB hard drive. The old operating system was DOS and this time, just as the first time, I had no choice; it will be Vista® Ultimate Service Pack 1.

Think about it. ‘Ultimate’ is the name and yet Service Pack 1 has already been released to fix all the things that were wrong with the original ‘Ultimate’ operating system. This doesn’t compute.

  1. I'm surprised to hear you are going with Vista.......I thought I read they were no longer going to be making Vista?

  2. Dell stopped offering a choice just a little while ago. I missed that boat.

But, despite the rumors, Vista will be around for awhile.

And then there is this... http://cybernetnews.com/2008/07/24/vista-critics-love-microsofts-new-operating-system-mojave/

So maybe I need to be open minded. Moi?
