(Mayor) Villaraigosa wants to eliminate between 1,200 and 2,000 more positions. His stance signals a more aggressive approach to the city's budget crisis.
And I'm sure this is happening in every city to a greater or lesser degree. You have to ask the question; where are the jobs for these people in the private sector? Answer: There are none. So they use unemployment benefits and pretty soon it will be food stamps. Then general welfare. House is lost. Homeless. Sure, that's a worst case scenario, but I do wonder if budget planners ever factor in those costs?
