I've been hearing about Tom Tancredo once again; something I was hoping would never happen. But he's back and his recent speech at the tea baggers convention had everything in it that a fascist would love. I simply don't understand people like Tancredo; how can you wake up every morning just filled with hatred? And as he makes his way through the day he is constantly reminded that we live in a wonderfully diverse society, a society that he hates and with pure venom in every word he speaks. Everywhere he looks, he finds himself surrounded by people who do not look just like him nor do they speak or think, heaven forbid, like him. Doesn't he get it? This country was founded with diversity written right into our Declaration of Independence and our Constitution. Yet, he wants to drag us back to a time in the 17th and 18th centuries when religious zealots would control our every thought and action. He may not realize it, but our Declaration of Independence was also written to declare us free from our fellow citizens who would enslave us in a theocracy. People just like him. And sad but true…his hate speech is protected by our Constitution. But it doesn't mean that we have to listen.
