Judges
Judge Halts CA Violent Video Games Law
“State by state, violent games legislation is being shot down for being unconstitutional. Late yesterday, California's violent games law was halted by Judge Whyte, representing another victory for the video game industry and retailers.”
Of course that makes lots of people mad…why doesn’t the judge do what the people want him to do? Because it truly was unconstitutional. Remember? It’s not his job to legislate. Sad, but we depend on lawmakers to do what we seem to be unable to do for ourselves. Stop buying violent video games and they will no longer be sold. And of course it would help if legislators would spend some time reviewing “real law” before writing the legislation.
And a little history would help…you cannot legislate morality, or any other human behavior. The change has to come from within society. We need to concentrate on changing ourselves and not depending on hundreds of new laws to do it for us.

"you cannot legislate morality"
ReplyDeleteI've heard this said before but it doesn't seem to make any sense except in validating or tolerating some one's immoral behavior.
Then why do we put murderers, rapist, car theives, drug dealers, etc, etc, etc, etc, etc in jail? Why do we fine speeders?
Morality has been legislated since creation.
And it still doesn't work. Do we still have those problems? Yes. The only way to change that is for society to change. Will it happen? Not in my lifetime.
