Rain, Rain...Go Away!

Another week begins with a splash and not a bang. Tiresome! We do have a roof over our heads and so I shouldn’t complain; I know that. But I will do it anyway.

When I look at my Yahoo weather page, I see little gray “storm cloud” icons stretching all the way across the page, from Monday to Friday. I know it’s weird to think of it today…but this rain will create a dangerous fire season for us this year. It might even be a good idea to buy stock in the company that makes Roundup®. We’ll need it.

And what else is new?

I was reading a good article this morning about how Iranians might retaliate if they are attacked unilaterally. Our intelligence agencies are spending a lot of time studying the many possibilities. In one scenario, they believe that Iranians would counterattack America within its own borders…at home. That’s sort of a “duh!” moment there, isn’t it? Of course they would! What would any country do when they were attacked? I hope they didn’t spend a lot of time and money studying that…but of course they did! It was the Defense Department after all, and spending money is what they do.

And this news caught my attention.

“After decades of debate and scrapped blueprints, crews are moving dirt and pouring concrete at O'Hare International Airport for the largest airport expansion in the nation's history.”

O’Hare was always the airport that I loved to hate, but always admired. The architecture leaves me cold, literally, but the artwork was worth getting on an airplane for. I remember standing near the escalators that lead up and down to the tunnel between the B and the C gates and marveling at the immense crowds of people that were streaming past. A hub of the world! And I also remember being on a plane, on the taxiway, and being told that we were 23rd in line to take off. I looked out my window as we turned a corner and I couldn’t begin to count all of the airplanes that were behind us.

I decided to let the cat come in early this morning and she is purring like an idling freight train. She is across the room from me; maybe 8 feet away, but I can still hear that deep rumble. That’s a good combination; stormy weather and a contented cat.
