After the market adventure, we were listening to the radio on the way back home and heard an interesting discussion on trans fats. That seems to be the focus of most health experts these days and I was surprised to learn that even when “0” trans fats are boldly advertised on the label of some products, ¼ or less of 1 percent are still allowed (according to the FDA) and it can still be advertised as containing 0. And that’s per serving…so if you ate more than one serving of potato chips, and who doesn’t?...you could be eating a lot more trans fats than you expected. Shouldn’t 0 mean 0? I guess it’s time to throw away the can of Crisco. And what’s healthy? Butter of course.
