To Market

Friday has arrived once again. And it’s supposed to be the start of a hot weekend, with temperatures over the 100° mark. But I’m going to sneak out of here for one day; going up to Susanville where I will be helping to raise a large section of newly framed wall for the addition at Bill and Jill’s house. Just one wall needs the help on Saturday and then I’m heading back home for some babysitting. I like it!

We decided to go into town (Chico) last night for a visit to the Thursday Night Market, held in the middle of the downtown; streets blocked off and filled with vendors of fruits and vegetables instead of cars. As is usual with these kinds of events, there are plenty of other enterprising vendors as well, selling everything from face painting to tarot card readings. (“Your future holds…tomatoes, apricots and berries”)

But, before the market…we spent a pleasant time sitting outside in the shade at the Grilla Bites restaurant. Organic salad, priced by the ounce, (I had .81 ounces…a meal!) was perfect for this kind of weather. I really like this location; umbrellas over the tables, and a large fountain in the middle of a brick paved courtyard. And at the hour of 5:30, it’s very serene.

Now, back to the market. We walked from one end to the other and up and down the side streets, looking at everything that was being offered. The market draws a large crowd and it wasn’t long before I was ready to escape. With my tomatoes, apricots and berries, of course.
