Thursday, I believe? (I can say that Laurae’s retirement has me confused more often as to which day of the week it is.) Yes, I just checked; Thursday it is and I’m more or less ready for it. The windows are open and the fan is sucking in some cool night air to replace the warmed up stuff we have been breathing all night.
Now that I’m awake; what’s new? Well, we’ve finalized our New Mexico trip; booking a flight out of Sacramento at the odd (even for me) hour of 6:00 AM. That means that we have to leave Orland around 3 in the morning. But if I’m correct, we will be in the Mountain Time zone when we land and that means we can get to bed an hour earlier that evening. Win a few, lose a few…it will all work out.
I’m really looking forward to this trip. The last few trips to New Mexico were part of my job and I didn’t get a chance to visit Santa Fe or Taos…our destination this time. Instead, I would spend a week or two at a time in Rio Rancho, just outside of Albuquerque and Rio Rancho has a landscape that is best described as “bleak”.
But the memories of my trips include some good eating! New Mexico has its own cuisine and it’s not to be confused with Mexican. It’s definitely New Mexican and quite good. In fact, I have just spent the last 15 minutes trying to track down a restaurant (on-line) that I enjoyed very much and it would be a perfect place for us to have lunch on our first day in New Mexico. The problem I have is the fact that I can’t remember the name of the place. I have even looked through my old expense account software; apparently someone else picked up the tab for that lunch. I remember it being located in a residential neighborhood near the river and about halfway between Albuquerque and Rio Rancho. The restaurant was quite large (white adobe) and was set back from the street, with a large dirt covered parking lot and lots of trees. There were 2 or 3 dining rooms and a bar. My best guess is Perea’s…?
