It’s that time of year again; time for the State of the Union speech. Dozens of speechwriters are busy at work, crafting the words that will be spoken. And do I care? Not. The speech is a manufactured product. Anyone could read it to us. And probably do a better job of it… Copies of the speech will be in the hands of the press long before it’s heard and the pundits will have their spin on it already prepared and waiting for release.
Note to the Senate and House of Representatives; pass a law that requires the president to fire all of the speechwriters and give us his own thoughts. Sure, you’ll have to override a veto to get it passed, but it needs to be done.
