The Weatherman says...

Sort of chilly this morning. The rain has passed by and is turning to snow in the mountains to the east of us.

And some good news; the pool company showed up yesterday to drain our mini-swamp and remove the old pool liner. We’re one step closer to getting a sparkling new pool in the back. There will be some measuring for the liner and then the waiting while it’s being fabricated.

After looking at the weather report, I would say that we’re not going to see these low temperatures again till October. And everything that is planted in the garden will soon explode in growth once the heat is established.

With the garden starting to take shape, I need to automate the watering as best I can. I don’t want to be tied down to the garden any more than necessary. I have a new sprinkler controller and all I have to do is figure out how to use it. Yeah, right!

The Economist has a great special article this week on the new ‘connected’ world and what we can expect in the next few years as wireless technology becomes more prevalent. In that new world, my sprinkler controller would be a node on my total house control program. I would program it from my computer. Along with the lighting and the heating/cooling. With RFID technology I would inventory my refrigerator and my pantry. I could check the status of all windows and doors before going to bed. Maybe an RFID chip for the cat? Is she in or out?
