Weeds and other thoughts

The sun is shining and it’s a cool 51 degrees outside. Spring weather as it should be. That sun is also blasting in the window here; time to lower the shades. And as I look out onto the garden area, I see a definite need to get my weed whacker running and remove the last few clumps of errant growth in the garden.

We had a good time last night as we celebrated a birthday (Denise’s) and Mothers Day at the Ahlswede’s. This meant we got to see 4 of our grandchildren all at one time. Always good. Unfortunately; though it was officially Bill’s birthday, he had to work and we missed seeing him and the twins. Well; 4 out of 7 ain’t bad!

And we had an interesting discussion on the underground economy and Social Security. (Yes, they go together) But what we didn’t discuss were some of the more interesting facts; such as the fact that no federal government employee pays into the Social Security system. Never have...never will. Right! Even “Dubya” and Dick, the great champions of the American Way of Life are exempt from paying, along with 14.6 million other federal employees. And I almost forgot about the eBay economy. About a million people now make that their primary source of revenue and it all adds up to about $25 billion a year (They think?). A larger economy than some small countries. And basically tax exempt. But, since no one has the facts...it's all supposition.
