I suppose I should do a critique of yesterday’s cooking exercise. Everyone was fed (Only 14 showed up) and we were congratulated for our efforts. But, it wasn’t pretty. We quickly found ourselves limited to just one stove as we couldn’t get the larger double-oven stove lit. It’s an old-fashioned one that requires a match to light off the burners in the ovens. Now that’s scary! And the prep time for the cinnamon bun cake took longer than I had allowed for, making me late for everything else down the line. Then the angel food cake pan I was using for one of the cakes began to leak butter, sugar and cinnamon onto the bottom of the stove, forcing us to open the back door and turn on a fan to clear the smoke. At least it was only smoke…no flames! And some of that leaking butter/sugar/cinnamon mixture spilled down onto the toast we were trying to make. (We didn’t have a toaster?) This created a new item for our menu; ‘Sticky Toast’. What fun!
