Let it be recorded; on December 6th of the year 2007, we lit the first fire of the winter…and so it begins. Once more we are slaves to the wood stove. Whenever we leave the house for any reason, we will think; is there enough wood in the stove to keep it going till we’re back? Every night before bed, the stove must be filled. Upon waking, the stove is filled again. Woe to me if there are only cold and lifeless ashes to be found, early in the morning.
But, we’ve made the cat happy! Boo can now be found stretched out, full length, in front of the fire. She’s usually a quite compact bundle of black fur, but give her a fire and she extends herself to capture every single free BTU radiating from the stove. Not a single therm escapes. Whoa! She must be 3’ long!
