Hot and hotter

Warm. Again. The windows are open, as usual, to gain any little bit of cool air we can before we have to start manufacturing our own. It is 71° and 83°, respectively. And the crickets are having a ball outside the window.

So I’m thinking about air conditioning and that means electricity and that reminds me of the book I just finished, Inventing Niagara by Ginger Strand. A good book, though the author repeats herself at times and that bothered me. I don’t care if there are twenty chapters between facts, don’t tell me again! I got it the first time.

But, on the plus side; I had no idea that the falls were basically man-made. Once upon a time they were natural, but now they have been redesigned, engineered, altered and dependent upon man to flow at all. They are turned on only for the tourist trade. It’s all about electricity and if Canadian and American power plants were to utilize the water at 100% efficiency, the falls would not…fall. At all.
