How odd…but fun. Last night, at our most informal bible study, someone asked if any of us remembered ‘Smokey Stover’, an old time comic strip? And did we remember the phrase ‘notary sojac’ which could always be found somewhere in the strip. And if we remembered all of that, what did ‘notary sojac’ mean?
Of course I took that question on; I remembered both the strip and the odd little phrase. Google quickly provided the answers. And I got a surprise along with it. Smokey Stover has his own website and so does the ‘World’s Smartest Human’,
I knew I would like The Straight Dope as soon as I read this, "Notary sojac," like the Bible Code and most Republican dogma, has no meaning.” I appreciate honesty like that.
And although I remember Smokey quite fondly, I must admit that his comic strip is lacking in one essential; it’s not funny. But there’s a lot to read!
