A Call from the Police

About My Son (On Christmas)

Sanity prevailed. But what if it hadn't? Idiots!

At the age of 9 I used to take the bus to downtown Los Angeles and go to the LA Library. Took about 1 1/2 hours and 2 transfers. Easy. At the same age I would ride the train (solo) from San Bernardino to Union Station in Los Angeles. Fun!

Loved this article. So many experiences are missed by kids because of fear. Because Mom did not drive, we really had no choice but to ride buses, walk or bike to where we wanted or needed to go. Bus rides to Downtown LA or Westchester from Manhattan Beach was a common trip. At age 7 to 10 I was riding the bus to Redondo Beach to Spec Saunders Roller Rink and to Hermosa to swimming lessons at the Bilmore plunge. You met some weirdos, but that is when you learned to steer clear. How else do you learn? Fear seems to drive so many families to over protect children.
